John Terry: Defiant

Reuters

John Terry does not intend to resign the captaincy of England following recent allegatons about his private life.

He could still lose the job if manager Fabio Capello decides he can no longer perform the role.

England football boss Fabio Capello is expected to hold talks with Terry on Friday.

The Football Association has made it clear the Italian will decide the 29-year-old Chelsea defender's fate.

Capello has been recovering from knee surgery at his holiday home in Switzerland and will return to London on Thursday.

He has been monitoring the fall-out from the Terry saga closely and has regularly spoken on the telephone with his assistant manager Franco Baldini.

Absence

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti earlier said he will grant John Terry a leave of absence if he asks for it after the recent revelations.

The England captain has reportedly asked to miss Chelsea's FA Cup tie against Cardiff in ten days time.

The Italian manager said "If he needs a holiday I will give him a holiday."

Ancelotti said after a disappointing draw with Hull City at the KC Stadium that the furore surrounding the defender had not affected his side: "The atmosphere in the team is the same. No change."
