Cornwall has higher housing need than the national average but fewer social houses.
The first homelessness strategy for the county intends to put this right as part of a national incentive.
Social housing forms only 12 per cent of housing stock in Cornwall compared to 23 per cent in the UK as a whole.

Rural residents are to get first priority when social housing in villages and parishes is allocated.
One Cornwall is drawing up a new policy to make sure that people with a local connection get priority to the social housing in their area.
This would cut down on housing being given to those outside the district or parish.
